Nineteen of the Russian's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid season, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after spring of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 various events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving approach and frequent emotional displays on court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial tour victory, took control to create a final set.

The opponent rescued four early opportunities in a close third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
